In this add the contemporary role of a woman was more of handling the
house workings as the slave for the children as well as making sure the
need of the man of the house are met to. With this add “the chef does
everything but cook, that’s what the wife’s for” was kind of degrading
as far as the woman’s capabilities where. They were educated women but
had that role in the house hold to be a caretaker and a stay at home
mom. This add is not empowering at all in my opinion, it seems like they
are trying to say that if you buy these knifes your wife will be a
genus in the kitchen when in actuality most of the housewife’s hated
doing what they did, but seeing all these adds that makes the situation
of having to do everything at home delightful is actually promoting the
fact that a woman has to have a very solid role of staying in the house
wife’s place.
